Speaker: Professor Saeid Nahavandi, Deakin University
Abstract: The Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), Deakin University, is a world leading research institute and pioneers in the fields of robotics, Universal Motion Simulators, Haptics enabled Human Machine Interfaces, modelling and simulations, and process optimisation, to name a few.
The Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI) has more than 80 researchers who use their R&D to provide practical solutions to real world problems and develop commercial-ready products and services. As a result, IISRI has been successful in the delivery of numerous industry-based research projects with major national and international organisations.
IISRI’s engineering and IT researchers provide robotics, simulation modelling and haptics solutions to clients such as the aerospace, automotive, defence, security, logistics and health industries.
Speaker Biography: Saeid Nahavandi received his PhD degree in Automation and Control in 1991 from Durham University (UK). He is currently Pro Vice-Chancellor and Alfred Deakin Professor at Deakin University. Holding the Chair in Engineering, he is also the founder and Director of the Institute for Intelligent System Research and Innovation at Deakin, leading over 60 postdoctoral research fellows and PhD students. Prof. Nahavandi’s principal research interests are in human machine interaction, haptics, modeling and simulation. He has focused on designing theories and algorithms for modeling and forecasting, uncertainty quantification, and decision-making using advanced artificial intelligence and soft computing methods.
