Research Manager BSc (Hons), PhD

Dr Janine Clarey (Research Manager)

Janine completed a PhD in Psychology (Monash University) in 1987, specialising in auditory neuroscience. Following lectureship and post-doctoral research positions at the University of Tasmania, University of Kansas Medical Center, and the University of Queensland, she joined the (then) Bionic Ear Institute as a research fellow and examined the encoding of complex sounds and speech within the auditory brainstem (1999 – 2005).

After a five-year break to spend time with family, she returned to the Bionics Institute in 2010 to take up an administrative role in grants and student co-ordination. Since then, Janine has worked across several research support areas including peer-reviewed grant submissions and post-award management, trusts and foundations, research communications, and research governance.

As Research Manager, Janine coordinates all submissions to government and philanthropic funding bodies, providing support and guidance to researchers to ensure eligibility and clarity. She is responsible for post-award management of grants, identifying new funding opportunities, and assists with communications and fundraising.

Janine serves as the Bionics Institute’s Research Integrity Advisor, and is a member of the institute’s Gender Equity, IP, and Research Steering committees.
