Institute’s Deputy Directors speak at student-industry network event
Professors Peter Blamey and Hugh McDermott, Deputy Directors of the Bionics Institute, were keynote speakers at Network 11, a student-industry networking event. The dinner was hosted by the Victoria Network of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on October 13th with the aim of building links between prospective employers and students.
The Network 11 dinner exposed 70 engineering and technology students and recent graduates to prospective employers and job opportunities.
Invited to provide the keynote address, Professors Peter Blamey (Deputy Director, IP and Commercialisation) and Hugh McDermott (Deputy Director, Research) passed on some of their experience of working at the cutting edge of the biotechnology sector. The diverse group of students and young graduates heard what was currently being done in the medical bionics field and what the future held for new bionic devices.
Professor McDermott said, “The presentation really opened new possibilities to some of these students, many of whom hadn’t considered engineering or technology in the biomedical industry.”
