Support us Appeals Arthritis Donate Fundraise Rheumatoid arthritis is a painful, debilitating inflammatory disease that affects 24 million people worldwide, including 500,000 Australians. Our research has shown that using electricity to alter the activity of nerves, dubbed ‘electroceutical therapy’, has demonstrated success in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Our researchers are now trialling this therapy for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by developing a device that activates the body’s natural inflammatory reflex by targeting the vagus nerve. This research is in its early stages, however if abdominal stimulation proves to be an effective treatment for arthritis in pre-clinical studies, we hope to have treatment translated into the clinic as soon as possible. Can you help us get to clinical trials earlier? Donate now to help.
