Dr Peter McNeill

Dr Peter McNeill is a is a consulting neurosurgeon at St Vincent’s Hospital and currently Director of Neurosurgery.

He restarted the Functional Neurosurgery program at St Vincent’s in the early 1990’s, and with Dr Richard Peppard, Dr McNeil helped introduce DBS surgery for Movement Disorders to St Vincents.

This approach and collaboration has helped make St Vincent’s Hospital one of the most experienced centers in Australia in the management of such conditions as Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor.

He has a particular interest in a program with Bionics in the application of DBS to the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

He has been engaged with Bionics’ own DBS program.

Peter McNeill also has recognized skill in the surgical management of pituitary region tumors including craniopharyngioma and meningiomas causing visual pathway compression.
