Learn about our contract research services

The Bionics Institute provides contract research and engineering services, and is located in Melbourne’s internationally renowned medical contract research hub. Due to the scale, scope and multi-disciplinary approach required to achieve our goals, a high level of scientific, operational and commercial acumen across a number of academic, hospital and industry partners is required. We have the relationships, policies and right people to effectively manage a constant ‘innovation loop’ between researchers, clinicians, patient groups, and industry.

Dedicated electrode fabrication laboratories

Prototyping engineering workshop

  • 3D printers
  • 3D scanners
  • Laser welder
  • CNC milling machine
  • Rolland milling machine

 Specialised preclinical laboratories

  • Faraday booths
  • Sound booth
  • Extensive wet lab area (PC2, histology, tissue culture)
  • Surgical microscopes
  • Zeiss axioscope fluorescent microscope
  • Microclimate chamber

 Specialised clinical testing facility

  • Sound booths
  • Audiometer
  • Tympanometer
  • Equipment for testing speech understanding
  • 64-channel EEG measurement system
  • 32-optode fNIRS imaging system
  • Specialist psychophysics systems for acoustic hearing and cochlear implants
