Deep brain stimulation (DBS) delivers electrical impulses to specific brain regions through surgically implanted electrodes. DBS is increasingly being used to alleviate symptoms in movement and psychiatric disorders where drug treatments are ineffective.

Although DBS can significantly improve motor symptoms in conditions like Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor, it is still far from perfect. Our dedicated team of DBS clinicians and research engineers are working on different ways to improve the effectiveness of DBS to improve quality of life for these patients.

We’re proud that our DBS clinicians were recently featured on ‘Miracle Hospital’ on the National Geographic channel! Check out neurologist, Dr Wesley Thevathasan, discussing DBS and his research at the Bionics Institute in this short video
