News and Blogs News Chairman appointed member of order of Australia Congratulations to the Bionics Institute Chairman, Mr John Stanhope, who was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division, in The Queen’s Birthday 2016 Honours List. The Order of Australia recognises outstanding members of the community. John received his award for his significant service and leadership in the financial and national communication sectors. John’s experience has covered many areas including finance, treasury, taxation, risk management and assurance, investor relations, corporate security and investigations, directorships on various boards of Telstra Corporation’s national and international subsidiary companies, and membership of industry and government committees. He was appointed Chairman of the Bionics Institute Board in 2015 and the Chancellor at Deakin University in 2016. He is currently Chairman and non-executive Director of Australia Post, a Director of AGL Energy Limited (Chair of Audit & Compliance Committee), Chairman of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Chair of the BRLF. John is also a Fellow of a number of professional societies including the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and the Australian Institute of Management. Bionics Institute Director, Professor Rob Shepherd noted “this is wonderful recognition of John’s active participation across a broad area of community activities”.
