
Ms Alexia Saunders, Program Coordinator- Translational Research
Alexia is a program coordinator for translational research at the Bionics Institute (2018-present) & (2010-2014).
She completed her undergraduate Bachelor of Applied Science (Hons) at Deakin University (2001) after which she took on the role of Research Assistant at Monash University (2002-2008) with a team that conducted the preclinical work which led to the clinical trial for a hypoglycaemic drug for type II diabetes.
After that role she worked at the Monash Antibody technologies facility (2008-2010) as a Scientific Officer where she was part of a team that produced monoclonal antibodies using semi-automated production for research use.
In 2010 she commenced a position of Senior Research Assistant at the Bionics Instate in the preclinical Bionic Eye team.
The teams work on safety, efficacy and surgical development resulted in progressing the device to the initial clinical trial.
Her current role has been primarily part of the preclinical team to progress the Epiminder seizure recording implant through to clinical trial.
She was part of a team that conducted the safety study and preclinical surgical development of the device.
