Mr David Proud
Mr David Proud is a Colorectal and General Surgeon. He holds current appointments as the Acting Head of Unit – Colorectal Surgery, and Supervisor of General Surgery training at the Austin Hospital.
Mr Proud received his Medical Degree from Monash University and trained in General Surgery at Alfred Health. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and a member of the Colorectal Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ).
After completing his Australian training, Mr Proud undertook prestigious international fellowships in Colorectal Surgery at St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin and at Austin Health, before joining the Colorectal Surgery department as a consultant surgeon.
Aside from his public hospital appointment, Mr Proud also consults and operates at Epworth Richmond and Warringal Private Hospital. His areas of interest include colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and minimally invasive surgery.
Mr Proud is an active researcher, having published many international papers and presenting regularly at conferences. He participates in the training and supervision of surgical trainees and medical students.
Mr Proud is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Bionics Institute, and is currently directly involved in the Vagus Nerve Stimulation research program as an Investigator and Principal Investigator in the first two clinical trials of the device.
