Bionics Institute 2022 Graeme Clark Oration

The Bionics Institute 2022 Graeme Clark Oration – a resounding success

After a two year hiatus, Australia’s most prestigious free public science event was held at the  Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 12 July.

More than 800 members of the public attending to hear from international leaders in biomedical sciences and public health.

Engineering Your Heart’s Health

The event celebrated advances in health and medical research that have had an impact on people throughout the world.

Attendees were inspired by international leaders in biomedical sciences and public health including this year’s Orator, renowned international researcher Dr Natalia Trayanova., Murray B Sachs Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

Professor Trayanova explored how her interdisciplinary research team is combining biological data and AI machine learning to create ‘digital heart twins’. These virtual replicas of the heart can be used to forecast progress of heart disease, estimate the risk of adverse events; and predict treatment responses. This exciting technology aims to inform clinical decisions and improve the lives of people with heart disease.

The 2022 event program included a Women in STEMM Lunch, a Biomedical Innovation Showcase, the Oration and a Gala Dinner.
