Girls in STEM Celebration Event 2022
Girls in STEM success!
To mark International Day of the Girl, the Bionics Institute 2022 Girls in STEM Mentoring Program came to a close with a celebration event in October.
We were delighted to host 24 high school students from Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar, Caulfield Grammar, Sacred Heart Geelong, Loreto Mandeville Hall and St Columba’s Essendon who were mentored over the past six months by leading female researchers from Bionics Institute and Seer Medical.
At the event we heard about the amazing career of Dr Pip Karoly from Seer Medical; got an insight into student life from Bionics Institute PhD candidate Elise Ajay; and heard how the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering is supporting women in STEM through their Elevate Scholarships from Dr Marguerite Evans-Galea AM.
We would like to thank MP Dr Tien Kieu for speaking and presenting the students with awards.
The Bionics Institute initiated this program in 2017 to inspire young women to follow a career in STEM, and the program grows every year. We are proud to be supporting our scientists of the future and look forward to extending the program to more schools in 2023!
