Dr David Hill, Research Engineer
David holds a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering with honours (RMIT University, 2017), having completed an internship at Bionics Institute where he developed processes for the assembly and testing of sealed implantable electronic devices.
From 2018 to 2022, David was part of the “Just-in-time Bone Tumour Implants” Innovative Manufacturing CRC project, completing a Ph.D. in Surgical Robotics (RMIT University, 2022).
The focus of his thesis was on the development of novel tools and algorithms to optimise and automate the pre-operative planning and removal of bone tumours.
Collaborating with industry and clinicians, his research integrated surgical robotics with additive manufacturing, resulting in two patents on automated pre-operative planning tools.
As part of the Bionics Institute engineering team, David’s work includes supporting research and development of devices for neuro-modulation, design and fabrication of prototype components and systems, and developing tools and processes to optimise the manufacture, assembly, and application of devices.
